On 4th May 2024, the Society of Construction Law – Mumbai, in collaboration with SCL India, successfully hosted the 1st One-Day International Conference on Construction LAw & Arbitration at the Four Seasons Hotel, Mumbai. Centred around the theme “Catalysing a Robust Ecosystem for Construction Dispute Resolution in India”, the conference brought together over 250 distinguished participants, including eminent judges, senior legal practitioners, arbitrators, in-house counsel, engineers, government officials, delay and quantum experts, project managers, and academicians. The event was inaugurated by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Manish Pitale and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Kamal Khata of the Bombay High Court, with a special address delivered by Mr. Bruce Collins KC (State Chambers, Sydney), and an opening keynote by Mr. Ratan K. Singh, Chairman of SCL India.
Through insightful sessions led by national and international experts, the conference examined critical aspects of construction arbitration, including delay analysis, claim quantification, contract variations, and the evolving role of artificial intelligence. The presence of luminaries such as Alexander Fessas (Secretary General, ICC Arbitration), Datuk Sundra Rajoo (Director, AIAC), and senior professionals from leading law firms and institutions further enriched the dialogue.
The conference not only reinforced SCL Mumbai’s commitment to fostering excellence in construction law and arbitration but also set a new benchmark for thought leadership, collaboration, and capacity-building in India’s dispute resolution landscape. It served as a catalyst for knowledge exchange and professional networking, paving the way for sustained engagement and future initiatives across jurisdictions.
